Free community program helps citizens plan for the future

Published: September 2, 2015

Summit County Probate Court Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer, Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE and Clerk of Courts Daniel M. Horrigan are pleased to announce a new community program titled “Your Family Matters: Options to Protect Your Heirs and Assets.”

The program will kick-off with its inaugural presentation at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Akron-Summit County Library, 60 S. High St., Akron, Ohio 44308. Attendance is free and open to the public.

Your Family Matters provides tools to help the citizens of Summit County plan for the future. The hour-long program will review options to help protect heirs and assets upon inheritance. It will also provide answers to questions about property deeds, probate court, vehicle titles and more.

“This program is not legal advice,” said Judge Stormer. “It is simply good information from the experts. Your Family Matters takes you beyond the Good Deeds project to give you simple, free tools to streamline or bypass the probate process.”

The speakers for the program will include Judge Marsh Stormer, Fiscal Officer Scalise and Clerk of Courts Horrigan. Many of the deed options discussed during the session can be prepared by the property owner, without the assistance of a third party. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

“Purchasing a new car or boat can be a large investment. Most buyers don’t consider what will happen to their new purchase if something happens to them,” said Horrigan. “Your Family Matters will discuss how owners can use a title option to save their heirs time and money.”

For citizens unable to attend the inaugural presentation, the program will be presented in several smaller venues throughout Summit County in September and October:

• Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m.: Ellet Branch Library, 2470 E. Market St., Akron

• Oct. 4. at 9:15 a.m.: House of Our Lord, 1650 Diagonal Rd., Akron

• Oct. 8. at 6:30 p.m.: Green Branch Library, 4046 Massillon Rd., Uniontown

• Oct. 20. at 6:30 p.m.: Northwest Branch Library, 1720 Shatto Ave., Akron

• Additional locations for future presentations will be announced at a later time.

“I encourage citizens to attend a session of Your Family Matters,” Scalise said. “We will discuss many options to help you determine which could most benefit you and your family in the years to come.”
