Ohio Immigrant Family Experience seminar explores immigration law

AKRON––The public is invited to participate in an interdisciplinary seminar titled, “Families & Communities: The Ohio Immigrant Family Experience” on Thursday, September 14, 2017, beginning at 8 am at Quaker Station, 135 S. Broadway, Akron. The seminar is co-sponsored by the Akron Bar Association, the University of Akron School of Law and the University of Akron Center for Family Studies. Continuing education credits (CEU/PDU/MCE) are available for this seminar as well as CLE credits for attorneys.

Topics to be covered include current immigration law; parenting in immigrant families; custody, social services, and education issues of immigrant families; national perspectives and local solutions; plus personal stories from immigrants. Featured speakers include Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan; Mary Meg McCarthy, Executive Director of the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) and Chair of the American Bar Association Commission on Immigration; Summit County Executive Irene Shapiro; Joe Cimperman, President, Global Cleveland; Professor Elizabeth Knowles, Assistant Clinical Professor of Law, Immigration & Human Rights Clinic, The University of Akron School of Law; Immigration Attorney Farhad Sethna; and Professor Parminder Parmar, Associate Professor, Health and Human Development, Penn State University.
