Akron Municipal Court to offer Halloween weddings

Published: September 19, 2017

AKRON9––Area couples have a “boo-tiful” opportunity to marry at a historic venue on Oct. 31 thanks to the Akron Municipal Court and the Akron Civic Theatre.

Akron Municipal Court Judge Kathryn Michael will perform Halloween weddings from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. at the Akron Civic Theatre, located at 182 S. Main St. Costumes are welcome.

The success of the inaugural event last year inspired the Akron Municipal Court to offer weddings on this holiday once again for 2017. The Akron Civic Theatre has generously donated space for the event.

Appointments are first-come, first-served and must be scheduled and paid for before Oct. 31. Time slots will not be added once all appointments are booked.

Prior to the ceremony, couples must obtain a marriage license from Summit County Probate Court. They then must pay a cash-only ceremony fee at the Akron Municipal Court Clerk’s Office in Room 837 of the Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center, located at 217 S. High St.

The fee is $25 for those in the court’s jurisdiction, Akron, Fairlawn, Bath, Richfield, Springfield Township, Lakemore and the Summit County portion of Mogadore. There is a $40 fee for those residing outside the jurisdiction.

After paying the fee, couples should take their receipt to Room 901 in the Stubbs building to secure a time slot.

The Akron Civic Theatre has requested couples use the Main Street entrance on the day of the ceremony. No professional photographers are permitted but each couple will be provided with digital images of the ceremony courtesy of the court.

For more information regarding scheduling, contact the court’s Chief Service Bailiff Patricia Williams at 330-375-2592.
