The Akron Bar Association is hosting its Law, Love and Chocolate event in partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association for the second annual year.
The event, which features an array of chocolate treats and wines, is Feb. 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, located at 9445 Brecksville Rd, in Brecksville. Tickets are $20 at the door with a special student price of $10.
Law, Love and Chocolate is the main outreach initiative for the environmental committees of the Akron Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Akron Bar Public Relations Director Maryanne Palik said.
“This joint event will allow each bar association to support law students seeking environmental law related internships at governmental entities or non-profits,” she said.
“We are seeking sponsorships from many of the environmental consulting firms in the area, so a good turnout helps them as well as raises funds for the internships.”
About 100 people are expected to turn out for the event.
Already, more than $3,000 has been donated for the cause, $1,000 came from the law firm Baker & Hostetler.
The goal is to raise $8,000 from the event, Palik said, adding they are asking for a sponsorship level of $200.
An addition to the upcoming program is a silent auction for a week at a Lake Lure, North Carolina condo, Palik said, which was “made possible through the generous benevolence of Mike Cyphert at Walter Haverfield.”
Celebrity chefs for Law, Love and Chocolate are Michael Robinson, Akron Bar president; Larry Poulos, Akron Bar past-president; Donnie Long, Akron Bar executive director; Heidi Robertson, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law; Terry Finn of Roetzel & Andress; Barbara Roman, CMBA president; Van Carson of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey; Maureen Brennan of Baker & Hostetler; Kurt Princic of Ohio EPA and Evan Palik of McMahon DeGulis LLP
