Published: August 8, 2011

COLUMBUS––Last Tuesday Ohio House Democratic Leader Armond Budish appointed Mark Griffin to fill a vacancy on the Ohio Ballot Board. The five-member board chaired by the secretary of state recommends and certifies ballot language, and oversees efforts to inform voters of statewide ballot issues. Griffin is an attorney at Thorman & Hardin-Levine Co. L.P.A. with nearly two decades of experience practicing law in Ohio.

“I am proud to announce the appointment of Mark Griffin to the Ohio Ballot Board. Mark believes strongly in our democratic elections process, as is evident by his years of work in elections law and voter protection,” said Budish. “He has the vast experience necessary to serve as a member of this board, and I know Mark will do everything in his power to ensure fair ballot language on proposed referenda, constitutional amendments and initiatives.”

Griffin has served as a legal consultant on election law and voter protection on numerous state and federal campaigns in Ohio. Prior to joining Thorman & Hardin-Levine, he was a partner at Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP. Griffin was also a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa, and served as a research assistant in The House of Commons in London, England.

Griffin has appeared before The Supreme Court of Ohio, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio as well as numerous Ohio courts of common pleas. He graduated first in his class and earned his juris doctorate summa cum laude from Case Western University School of Law; his master’s degree in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government; and his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of Pennsylvania.
