Akron Bar Foundation awards $114,781 in grants and scholarships

The Akron Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Akron Bar Association, recently made its annual community grant and scholarship awards, totaling $114,781.

The following local organizations received grants to help subsidize their programs:

Akron Municipal Court: RISE Program & OVI Court Material

Akron Municipal Court Probation Department: Peace of Mind Program (Female Misdemeanor Offenders)

Battered Women's Shelter of Summit & Medina Counties: Justice System Advocacy for Domestic Violence Victims

Bondage Breakers: Laying a Faithful Cooperative Foundation for Future Generations

Broken Chains Ministry: Restorative Justice Program

Rape Crisis Center of Summit & Medina Counties: Outreach, Education and Violence Prevention

The Salvation Army Summit County Area Services: Community Service Worker Program

Victim Assistance Program: 2019 Akron Municipal Court Advocacy Program

In addition, the Foundation awarded grants to the Akron Bar Association to help fund several special services including the annual Mock Trial competitions for area high schools and a community event to take place during Law Week 2020.

Scholarships were awarded to 11 students studying at Ohio law schools who will split $45,000 in scholarship monies. To be eligible, students needed to either live in or have some familial connection to Summit County. Those receiving scholarships attend the University of Akron, Case Western Reserve University, and the Ohio State University.

Since 1961, the Akron Bar Foundation has supported the mission of the Akron Bar Association to serve as the primary guardian of the Summit County legal system, through education, advocacy, and community service. The Foundation further supports the wider legal community by providing scholarships to deserving law students.
