Akron Municipal Court Chief Bailiff Patricia Williams loves her job and it shows.
Recently she was nominated for her outstanding performance with the court at Ohio as 2011 Regional Court Officer of the Year at the Ohio Supreme Court.
William’s performance in the areas of technical knowledge and ability, positive mental attitude, and personal attributes were measured against the performance of other nominees from around the region.
Her performance was found to be most exemplary.
Additionally, she received the 2011 State of Ohio Region “C” Court Officer of the Year Award. Her prompt, courteous and dedicated service as chief deputy bailiff to the Akron Municipal Court earned her this honor.
Williams accepted the awards at The Ohio Bailiffs & Court Officers Association 2011 Fall Conference in Columbus at the end of September.
President Thomas F. Mulgrew of O.B.C.O.A. said she demonstrates professionalism, dependability, and reliability in and out of the court house. “She is a great example as to what it takes to receive this prestigious award,”
Akron Municipal Court Judge Jerry Larson agreed. “The bailiff’s office is run very efficiently under Pat Williams,” he said.
For 20 years, Williams has been an employee of the court, first as a secretary, then an office manager, then a personal bailiff for Judge Carla Moore and a personal bailiff for Judge Eve Belfance–both whom sit on the 9th District Court of Appeals in Akron. Williams became chief bailiff in 2009.
As chief she oversees all of the bailiffs in the court for the six judges, traffic court magistrate and the outside service bailiffs, the majority of her time being spent with the outside bailiffs.
Those outside bailiffs fill in for all bailiffs, serve legal documents for judges (evictions, subpoenas, etc.), carry out replevin orders and schedule weddings.
“I was very honored, very excited about the awards,” Williams said. “I like it all, I just love bailiffing.”
