Sheriff busts more than thieves in multi-state investigation

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office completed a lengthy investigation of an organized group of over 50 people who stole merchandise from several stores, returned the items for store credit, and then sold the in-store merchandise cards. The stolen merchandise included clothing, tools, and material for building/repairing homes.
The thefts, valued at over $200,000.00, occurred primarily at Lowes, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Wal-Mart, and Home Depot. The stores were located in Summit, Medina, Cuyahoga, Portage, Franklin, and Hamilton Counties in Ohio and several locations in Pennsylvania and New York.
Several suspects used the money and materials to refurbish three homes in Shaker Heights, East Cleveland, and Bratenahl. These homes were seized as well as five vehicles that were used repeatedly in the thefts and transportation of stolen goods.
Those arrested include Dawn Haynes, age 37, of Bratenahl, for engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and theft and Khalil Abdur, age 42, of Bratenahl, for engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and theft. They were booked into the Summit County Jail.
Arrest warrants for engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and theft have been issued for Anthony Jones, age 50, of Solon and Darrell Makupson, age 31, Khalid Aycocks, age 38, Kamal Abdullah, age 36, and Lindy Okuly, age 33, all of Shaker Heights. The remainder of the group has arrest warrants for theft and teceiving stolen property.
