Reece presented with flag flown in combat mission over Afghanistan

COLUMBUS––Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Guy L. Reece II, a retired colonel of the U.S. Army, received an American flag Tuesday, Oct. 2, that was flown during a combat mission in Afghanistan by a serviceman who calls Reece his mentor.
Lt. Col. Fred J. Pringle of the 3-401st AFSBn presented the flag to Reece in his courtroom in downtown Columbus.
Pringle and Reece met when Reece visited Pringle’s unit in Cadiz, Ohio, in 1987. In the years that followed, Reece invited Pringle to various events to expose him to military leadership, according to Pringle
“Those experiences helped in me being selected for company command upon my return from Operation Desert Storm in 1991,” Pringle said. “I always valued his evaluations and input on my performances and the various events/posts that he served at.”
During his career in the Army, Reece earned numerous awards, including the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam.
“Because of the mentorship provided by Col. Reece (Ret.) in my formidable years, I had an American flag flown for him on a combat mission in Afghanistan where I just recently returned from,” Pringle said. “It is a way to recognize him for both his mentorship and his service.”
Reece said he was truly humbled by Pringle’s gesture.
“For him to honor our friendship and brotherhood-at-arms like this is very special. I’m very proud of his and his colleagues’ service to our country. Their bravery and patriotism are examples for all Americans to hold up and cherish.”
