This is the kind of column that could be written nearly every day, but here are some good, new (or newi-sh) apps of interest.

Some people actually do use a smartphone as a phone. For them, try out TalkNotes and CallWho Smart Contacts.

TalkNotes ($2) is an Android app that allows you to take notes on your phone while a call is in progress. It opens automatically when a call is in progress, and also keeps old notes, updates contacts, and syncs to a calendar.

CallWho is a phone contact organizer that automatically puts contacts in order of calling frequency, and can also be programmed to order them in any way. Android; free.

Triggerfox is a free contact management app that some big-timers are putting money into. It is a CRM that uses a personal model rather than a B2B model, so it allows lawyers to maintain personal contact with clients and others through a variety of means. Worth checking out.

Vizilife (free) is another high-function contact manager, which calls itself a “life planning and organization app.” Check it out.

Slideshare Presentation App (free; Android) is an online app for creating and sharing slideshows. It has an online library of over 12 million presentations, and claims 60 million users.

addappt (free; Android) is a very useful app that automatically updates all of your contact information across multiple platforms. Any time one of your contacts changes contact information, your contact list is simultaneously updated.

Notifyr (iOS; $4) syncs all notifications between a Mac desktop and iOS devices.

Speaking of syncing in the iOS world, FireChat (free) connects open devices across a limited network without needing a wireless or other connection, taking advantage of a built-in iOS function. Good for sending messages to co-counsel across a conference table, for instance.

U.S. Code Pro (iOS; $12) is a searchable database of the United States Code. If you practice in federal court, definitely get this app.

Ever lose your phone? No? Well, you will. Marco Polo is an app that allows you to verbally find it. You call out a key word, and it talks back to you.
