Youngstown-based Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell has added a senior associate to its legal team.

Kellie S. Rogers started in the Salem office on March 1 after leaving the East Liverpool law firm Aronson, Fineman & Davis Co., where she worked since 1991.

“Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell has a long history and an excellent reputation for providing a wide range of legal services to clients in the region,” said Rogers. “My firm was undergoing some changes and I was looking for a new position.

“When I was given an opportunity to join HHM I was very excited to do so,” said Rogers. “I was able to bring my clients with me and the resources available at HHM will allow me to provide them with services in additional practice areas via the attorneys at the firm.”

Born and raised in East Liverpool, Rogers graduated from the University of Mount Union in Alliance with a bachelor’s degree in political science and French.

After obtaining her juris doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, she began her career at Aronson, Fineman & Davis Co.

Rogers is licensed in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Since 1999 she has been certified as a specialist in workers’ compensation law by the Ohio State Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Law Specialty Board.

While at Aronson, Fineman & Davis Co. she also handled social security disability, employee relations, personal bankruptcy, domestic relations, probate law and appeals.

From September 1998 to February 2013, she served as an acting judge for the East Liverpool Municipal Court.

Rogers said she first became interested in workers’ compensation law in college.

“I was part of the Governor’s Honors Program under Gov. Richard Celeste,” said Rogers. “I had the chance to do an internship in the law section of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and I found the area of law to be quite unique.

“My interest carried into my legal practice, which flowed into social security disability law,” she said. “I enjoy working with medical records and medical issues.”

Shawna L. L’Italien, a member of the firm’s management committee, said the addition of Rogers would allow the firm to expand its workers’ compensation law expertise.

HHM has more than 20 lawyers in its Youngstown, Warren and Salem offices who represent corporations, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and individuals in matters ranging from business and employment and creditors’ rights to oil and gas.

“The firm does have attorneys who handle workers’ compensation but not generally on the employee side,” said L’Italien. “Kellie has been representing employees. She also has experience in other areas that we were not handling to any large degree in the past like social security disability and personal bankruptcy.

“We were referring a lot of that work out and her addition allows us to keep that work here,” said L’Italien. “She also allows us to expand geographically on a larger scale to West Virginia, Pennsylvania and East Liverpool. She has been working with clients in those areas. For those reasons and others we are happy to welcome her to our team.”

Rogers, who lives in East Liverpool with her husband Scott and their three dogs, said her goal is to continue to expand her practice and expertise.

“I’m looking forward to a long relationship with the firm,” said Rogers.
