The Supreme Court of Ohio has appointed Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael J. Sage as chair of the Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure.

The commission reviews all rules governing practice and procedure in the courts of Ohio, including the Rules of Civil Procedure, the Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Rules of Appellate Procedure, the Rules of Juvenile Procedure, and the Rules of Evidence. The commission also reviews all rules governing procedure in traffic cases. The commission considers and recommends proposed rules and amendments to the Supreme Court.

Sage has served on the Butler County bench since 1991 and administers a Substance Abuse and Mental Illness Docket that addresses felony-level offenders with a primary diagnosis of both a severe mental health disorder and drug dependency. From 1982 to 1987, he served as an assistant prosecutor in Butler County. He received his law degree from the University of Dayton.

The Supreme Court also appointed Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge Reeve W. Kelsey to serve as vice chair of the commission. The judges begin their duties as chair and vice chair on Jan. 1, 2012.
