The Akron-based law firm Goldman & Rosen Ltd. has two new partners as of the New Year.

Attorney J.R. Russell and Attorney Peter Tsarnas were promoted. They bring the firm’s partners to eight, among two associates, one of counsel, two paralegals and eight support staff.

The new partners both have years of experience with the firm and are also friends with one another.

“I was honored to receive this opportunity from Goldman & Rosen,” Russell said. “I was especially excited when I learned that one of my closest friends, Peter, was invited to become a partner too.”

Russell, a 2002 graduate of the law school at The Ohio State University, joined the firm in 2004 and since worked as a litigator.

In the past year, leading up to his promotion, he said he worked on some fascinating cases.

“I've had particularly interesting cases involving constitutional issues, international contracts, insurance subrogation claims, inter vivos gifts of real property and identity theft,” he said.

He also serves as the assistant village solicitor for the Village of Lodi and helps the firm with its work for Coventry Township and Copley Township.

“I am thrilled to be practicing in this legal community,” Russell said. “The Akron metropolitan area has a tremendous amount to offer.”

He calls himself extremely fortunate to practice at the firm.

“I believe the attorneys here are among the best in their respective areas of practice in this region. I think that our model devotes a lot of time to teaching the practice of law, while also giving our associates sufficient autonomy to continue to develop their strengths. Our founding members had a vision of providing the best possible legal services to our clients in an efficient and professional manner. I strive everyday to continue that vision.

He also said it’s exciting and challenging to learn what is necessary to manage and continue the growth of a lawn firm.

“As attorneys, we are vanguards of a profession. However, like many of our clients, we are also business owners who need to continue an enterprise. It's a partner's job to make sure that those two needs are met.”

Because of early exposure to the law, Tsarnas said he feels especially blessed to become partner.

“Ever since I was a child, my father George Tsarnas (senior partner at Goldman & Rosen), practiced law with Sam Goldman and I was fortunate from a young age to see the skill, integrity and professionalism in their careers first hand.

“The formation of Goldman & Rosen occurred in 1990 during my freshman year in high school, and it was during those high school years that it became a goal to practice law with my father.”

Tsarnas said it was upon graduating from The University of Akron School of Law in 2003 and passing the bar that same year that his goal came to fruition as he joined Goldman & Rosen with the opportunity to practice law not only with his father, but also with his sister, Stacey Tsarnas Hackenberg.

“Now, as a partner at the firm, I feel extremely blessed to be a partner with my father,” he said. “The law firm of Goldman & Rosen has assembled an incredible group of attorneys that is widely respected for their expertise, integrity and professionalism in their respective practice areas and I look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence that began 22 years ago.

“I am blessed to not only have family but also my closest friends as partners in this firm,” said Tsarnas, who is chairman of the bankruptcy and commercial law section of the Akron Bar Association and recently completed the 2008-2010 term of the attorney constituent group for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Ohio.

As partner, he will continue to represent both consumer and commercial clients in all aspects of Chapter 7, Chapter 11 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings.

“I look forward to the responsibility of participating in the management of our business operations to insure that Goldman & Rosen continues to grow and prosper in the future,” he said.
