Published: July 20, 2011

For the first time in the history of the Supreme Court of Ohio, a woman will fill the Reporter of Decisions position, the Supreme Court announced today.

Sandra Huth Grosko, Case Management Counsel in the Office of the Clerk, will replace Ralph Preston who will retire at the end of the month.

Grosko will lead the office that is responsible for reporting and publishing the Court’s opinions, rulings on motions, miscellaneous orders and rule amendments. The Reporter’s Office also posts to the Supreme Court’s Web site opinions from the Supreme Court, the courts of appeals, the Court of Claims, and selected trial courts. In addition, the reporter manages the process of reporting the Justices’ votes on individual cases.

Article IV, Section 2(C) of the Ohio Constitution requires the Supreme Court to report all its decisions including its reasoning.

Grosko, who has been employed at the Supreme Court for more than 16 years, said she’s excited to work with the justices and the staff in the Reporter’s Office.

“I am honored to be chosen to serve the Supreme Court of Ohio as the next Reporter of Decisions,” Grosko said. “I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues in the office to uphold the high standard of work that has always been exhibited by the Reporter’s Office.”

Previous to serving as Case Management Counsel, Grosko served as a law clerk for then-Justice Deborah Cook, as a judicial attorney for Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Patricia Cosgrove, as a law clerk for then-Ninth District Court of Appeals Judge Cook and as a law clerk for the Toledo Edison Company and Marathon Oil Company.

Grosko received her law degree cum laude from the University of Toledo College of Law and her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University.

“Sandra is not only intimately familiar with the substantive duties of the job, she is also a thorough professional who will partner with other members of the Court’s senior staff to make the Supreme Court of Ohio even better,” Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor said. “The justices are delighted that she has accepted the new responsibilities.”

Grosko lives in Gahanna with her husband and son.
